The UNC English MA concentration in Literature, Medicine, and Culture is seeking applicants for the 2020-2021 academic year. We seek students who have a solid foundation in the humanities, experience with interdisciplinary study, and demonstrated interest in medicine, health, and/or healthcare. Our interdisciplinary program is housed in the Department of English & Comparative Literature, but the flexible program allows students to craft an individual course of study across academic departments and UNC schools and work with affiliated faculty who are trained as literary scholars, anthropologists, philosophers, rhetoricians, clinicians, journalists, and bioethicists. The two-year program (with option for a three-semester intensive course of study) is intended for students interested in pursuing graduate study in health humanities and allied fields or careers in a range of healthcare settings.

Applications requirements include:

  • UNC Graduate School’s online application & fee ($95)
  • An analytical writing sample (10-20 pages)
  • Statement of purpose (max 750 words)
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • GRE scores (or MCAT score)
  • Official transcript(s) of all undergraduate coursework

Applications are due December 3rd.
